Spring is here, time to clean our houses and de-clutter our minds !
When the weather starts changing here, it calls for a positive change in all aspects of our lives, either it be house cleaning, getting rid of old winter stuff, losing those extra pounds and also a spiritual and emotional health change: like de-cluttering our minds. How often do you set some time aside for a simple mind tune out?
When I started my mantra practise, I realized how essential it was to take some time to be still to de-clutter my thoughts. It set me thinking how much easier focus, clarity and freedom of mind can be, when the mind is cleared of the mental chatter and clutter clogging up the creative thought process and creating anxiety.
You may not realize just how many un-useful thoughts you are handling and trying to process subliminally and the energy this takes until you stop for a break.
It doesn’t take much. 10 minutes can be a good start. But sometimes we need to learn the basics like a simple mantra being part of your break. What’s a mantra? (A sacred word or phrase that helps quite the mind and free your mind…)I was asked the other day what all these sacred chants (mantras) meant and if it was important that it had to be a mantra?
I reflected before answering and then said no. I told her that …”As long as the “word” you choose to chant meant something to you and enables you to let go and connect within”…then that word is your mantra.
I thought for awhile afterwards to see if I directed this person the right way and after reflection I did.
In fact, you don’t need any words with meaning…. As long as the “thinking” brain switches its thinking process, and enters the “meditative state, then whatever works for you, works… I choose mantra meditation because it has been the easiest form of meditation for me. It works for me and many people that I have shared this kirtan*** experience with.
If you have never experienced a kirtan, I would suggest trying one.
I invite you to my mantra practise and Montreal kirtans.
